The Eastern Michigan Eagles were proud to announce that starting in the 2006-2007 season, that their new coach would be former Detroit Red Wing and NHL defenseman, Lee Norwood.

Norwood, a Trenton, Michigan native, played 17 seasons of professional hockey. He was drafted in the third round, 67th overall, in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft by the Quebec Nordiques. During his 17 pro seasons, he played 12 in the NHL. Five of those were with the Detroit Red Wings. In the '84-'85 season he was awarded the IHL Governor's Trophy for most outstanding defenseman. He retired as a player from professional hockey in 1997 and the '97-'98 season saw his coaching debut with the Central-Texas Stampede of the Western Professional Hockey League.
