TEAM: FIRST PERIOD SECOND PERIOD THIRD PERIOD FINAL SCORE:
Eastern Michigan 0(14) 2(15) 1(5) 3(34)
West Virginia 2(12) 2(18) 4(11) 8(41)

The Eagles tune-up to their big matchup against the Nittney Lions was a huge success, as the Eagles easily manhandled and dominated West Virginia by the score of 11-1.

Ann Arbor, Michigan- The Eagles of Eastern Michigan looked like a focused hockey team as they dominated the West Virginia Mountaineers by the impressive score of 11-1.

The first period of the game was where the Eagles took control of the game by just playing dominate hockey the whole entire period. West Virginia was forced on their heels the whole period and the Eagles took advantage of it out-shooting their opposition by 3 times. Five different Eagles scored goals in the first period. These included, Ryan Gauthier, Adam Smith, Ryan Thompson, Frank Garcia and Derek Wilson. The Eagles looked very sharp in this period of hockey, just taking it to the West Virginia goaltender and their defense.

The second period of the game was very similar to the first, except the Eagles were only able to manage two goals off of the West Virginia goaltender. These two goals were scored by Frank Garcia and Jim Krohl (first goal of his career). Jake Pruss unfortunately let one goal in on a nice shot from West Virginia. However, the Eagles maintained their dominance and were continuing to poor on the shots on the West Virginia Goaltender.

The third period of the game was also the Eagles, but I feel that it was mostly due to the fact that West Virginia became tired and warn out from the Eagles aggressive play and relentless attacking. The West Virginia goaltender was also hung out to dry in this game being forced to deal with all 60 shots, and played very admirably considering the attack that was against him. In the third Robert McNamara scored two goals, Ryan Thompson added his second and Ryan York added the last of the Eagles season-high 11 goals.

The Eagles on this evening looked like a team focused on getting the game over with and dominating it in the process. They did this with much ease, as West Virginia put up very little resistance against the Eagles. The Eagles were faster and a lot better of a team than West Virginia was. The Eagles had their way in the Neutral Zone and on the entire ice. It was the Eagles chance to showcase their talents, and they did an outstanding job demonstrating them. The Eagles looked very good, but did look a tad tentative at times to shoot (which is hard to believe considering they shot 60 times!). The Eagles must continue to play team defense and team offense if they hope to keep in the game with the Penn State Icers tomorrow.

The Eagles looked great! That's about all there is. If the Eagles can play a flawless game tomorrow, Penn State might be in for a run for their money. If the Eagles play poor...., well let's not think about that.

The Eagles now play the game that I mark on the schedule every year, against the University of Penn State, the three-time defending national champions. The Eagles will begin the evening with their annual Alumni Game being played at 2:00 PM at the Olympic Rink at the Cube. Come on out and support the Eagles at 4:00 PM. We need every EMU fan, every EMU band member and every EMU alum to come on out and root the Eagles on in their hope for an upset! Penn State is the only team that I have not seen the Eagles have a positive result against in my five years, and I would LOVE for this to be the year.

Let's hope that tomorrow I can write an article celebrating an upset of the champs!

For Good Luck:
GO GREEN!
GO GREEN!

And see everyone tomorrow at 4:00 PM!
-Kevin

A
Very impressive. 11 goals. Not too bad.

A-
Excellent Defensive Effort tonight as well, although West Virginia didn't exactly do too much to make the EMU goaltenders worry.

B
Well, it didn't come into play much and the Eagles didn't score much on the PP and West Virginia didn't exactly score much on theirs.

Excellent tonight.

A
Eagles dominated the game without problem.
